When was the last time you wore that bright red lipstick?

Or colored your hair with the purple dye?

Can you even remember when that half-used tube of moisturizer was purchased?

Is your bathroom vanity cluttered with things you never use?

You Will Feel Prettier With Organized Beauty Products

Gather all the face and hair care products you own ~ from drawers and cabinets, purses and backpacks. It’s time to evaluate your stash of foundations, eye shadows, hair gels, and all those lotions and potions that promise to make you look 20 again.

A recent article in Metro News Online suggests if you can’t remember the last time you enjoyed wearing a face cream or makeup item it’s probably time to let it go.

The piece also offers a couple of tips from cosmetic chemist Ginger King. When you are decluttering and organizing beauty products keep in mind:

  • Generally, powder-based products outlast liquids, because the higher the water content, the more chance of bacteria growing.
  • The packaging type will impact the shelf life. An airless pump will keep out more oxygen than a tube that you have to open for every use.
  • Look for changes in the product ~ color, odor, texture, appearance. Even if the changes are slight, it’s a clear indication the product has expired.

Can Beauty Products Be Recycled?

Unfortunately, most of the things you choose to discard need to go directly into the trash. Most charitable organizations will not take a personal care item that has been opened. I do encourage you to empty, rinse and recycle bottles and jars, however.

Creating Organized Beauty Products Systems

The next step is to determine what products to replace. How many varieties of eye shadow do you need when you always wear the same color? If you haven’t literally powdered your nose in years you probably don’t need to replace the compacts you just tossed. Only buy new products you will actually use because you love the way they make you feel and look. Use labeled containers to organize your products by categories. Is labeling really necessary? I think so! Read why here.

A few of my favorite organizing tools include:

You’ll be able to find just what you need each morning when it’s time to “put your face on” and your nighttime routine will become so relaxing it will help you sleep better. Less stress and more sleep ~ two fantastic ingredients in any beauty routine!
