First, What is Feng Shui?
Feng Shui is the art and science of balancing and harmonizing your space. This just means that how you live in a space – the stuff you have, where you put that stuff and how you decorate – directly impacts your life in every way: finances, love life, travel, relationships with family and friends, career, knowledge, creativity and health. Simply put, feng shui affects every single aspect of your life whether you realize it or not, whether you practice it or not, whether you pay it any attention or not. Each of the life categories mentioned above are also represented in your space (more on that later!).
Does Clutter Really Matter?
Feng Shui enhancements won’t work if clutter hasn’t be tackled. Clutter can be both a literal and a symbolic block, affecting the flow of energy that brings positive opportunities, experiences and people into your life. In feng shui-speak we call that energy “chi”. Chi is also known as our life force and Clutter Kills Chi!
Money, Money, Money!
The far back left hand corner of your home is the area dedicated to prosperity and abundance. This is your money area! Abundance of any kind is not attracted to dirt and clutter; instead, clutter repels abundance. Clutter in this area can clog your cash flow, cause your overall financial situation to stagnate, and make it difficult to create any abundance in your life. Struggling financially? Clean and declutter this area. Remove anything broken: if it’s broke, you are probably broke.
Love makes the world go ‘round
The far back right hand corner of your home is all about love–both of self and a significant other! Clutter in this area can make it difficult to find the right partner. Already in a relationship? Clutter will exacerbate existing relationship struggles. Clutter in the bedroom will do a number on intimacy. No one feels sexy surrounded by clutter!

Desk
Your desk is command central for your career. A messy, cluttered desk creates stagnant energy. Over time it will make you feel stressed, unable to focus, and unproductive–not the energy needed for a successful, satisfying career. Want to be considered for a promotion? Clean and organize your desk!
These are just a few of the ways clutter can show up to negatively impact your life. The reality is that every aspect of life is affected by clutter.
Where to Start
Start small – cleaning out a pencil holder or junk drawer might just be the first step toward a clean, clutter-free home. Just make sure you deal with all of the clutter. Organize, donate, put in a proper home, or toss. Moving the clutter from one part of your home to another is just moving the problem around. Still stuck in park? Give yourself the gift of a better life and hire an organizer. Time with Joanie Nicholas is a small price to pay for huge, life-changing magical results.
